DStar

Lothian & Borders and East Scotland

Links above show the Dashboards of Reflector XLX604; 144Mhz Repeater MB6JD; 439Mhz Repeater GB7JD.

Linking to an XLX reflector is best done using the DCS protocol. In this example a link is made to XLX604 module [ J ] using the DCS protocol. [ DCS604JL ]

All XLX reflectors accept all protocols and transcode seamlessly between protocols

XLX602 is linked to XLX604 which is considered the main reflector as tests and adjustments are trialled on XLX602

XLX604 has the DStar Repeater GB3ED, located in Edinburgh, linked on module [ M ]

Using you mobile phone on DStar is also possible via the Peanut app by connecting to module [ P ]

Hotspot Info

Information on setting up a hotspot is freely available, no need to repeat it here.

One method of connection that seems to worry users is making personal calls; using a hotspot for personal calls is ideal

First, make sure you are registering on one of the two links above; ircddb requires a password, openquad does not

Once you are registering there is no need for you or your pal to be connected to a repeater or reflector to make a personal call; if fact, it is better not to.

All you need do is enter your pals' callsign in the [ UR ] field in your radio, press the PTT, say a few words, and he will reply if his radio is switched on

If you normally move around between repeaters it is probably better to use an additional letter behind your callsign in the [ MY ] field and use it only for your hotspot as this makes it easier for the system to find you
